Dance of the Shades
Heed not the starlit heaven, Heed not its call. Come now to join our coven, Come join us all. Around you, give no heed; Come as one driven (Let not fair night mislead!) To our deep cavern. Those stars are soul-hags, elves, Vampires of evil; Come hasting, not by halves, To join our revel. The moon has sown the strand With witching fairies: Come now amongst our band, Join our old chorus. For you a honeyed spell On twigs they laid, Nightingales fell; See, where an owlet played, From fallen tower, Songs that of old times tell (Shrink not in fear), Setting the measure for us In our slow chorus. Then come among us here (Shrink not in fear); We’ll rock and lull you To sleep, nor shall you Waken, safe taken: Friendly we’ll go. Come, dance our Ländler, Endlessly slow.
